I see a sense of wonder deep inside your eyes
As we're sparkling and twirling in the twilight
And after three long years, I think that we both need this So we seal the deal in the parking lot with a kiss And in case you were wondering, you are like a sunset to me
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Boredom had taken over the young teenage girl. Her brain was aching from lack of human contact. The only people she had talked to so far were the teachers and the people in the main office. This was because Allison was late for first semester. It had been open for a few days now, but she was driving down to California. Besides Quin, those were the only people she had seen. Allie expected to see Deanna, Paul, and quite a few other people. She was surprised to see that her dorm looked rather empty. There were a few of Deanna’s things lying around, but nothing major. And then of course, there was no Deanna. Allie hadn’t even checked the time when she came into the school. She unpacked, changed, and left her dorm. She hadn’t realized that classes were in session at the time. She had to find somewhere to go until the day ended. There were a good three or four hours until classes ended and kids retreated to their dorms.
This is where Allie found herself making her way to the student lounge. It was completely empty. The light hadn’t even been turned on yet. She felt around for the switch on the wall, finding it after a frustrating few minutes. Allie had been frustrated in general for a few days now. She had thought up a few reasons as to why. First of all, she hadn’t seen any of her best friends in months. In fact, she hadn’t even really talked to Paul. He was one of the first people she always went to for advice or help, along with Deanna. Whenever she needed that over the summer, he wasn’t there. That didn’t mean Deanna wasn’t. It wasn’t the same. The trio needed to be reunited. Maybe that was a sign. Maybe Paul wasn’t coming back at all.
Or maybe she was just over analyzing things.
That wasn’t something unusual for her. It was always that way. She just contemplated things too much. Now was one of those times. It felt like she had been pushed to the side. It was nice to have Quin, but her other two best friends were so much more. That, she felt bad about. Quin was her supposed boyfriend; he was supposed to be her first priority. But he wasn’t. Paul and Deanna were her first priorities above all. They kept her going when she wanted to stop. So did Quin, but it was so much different. She had only known him for a few months. He was just a summer romance. He didn’t know she had a life outside of him, and when he found that out, she feared the consequences. He was important, but not as important.
Allie had a bag slung over her shoulder, filled with things she had to label. These were things like notebooks, text books, calculators, everything needed to have her name on it so she wouldn’t lose it. After all, Allie hated failing at something she tried. Success was her main goal in life, even if she didn’t make that goal all the time. In one hand, she had a cold can of Monster. Some things really never changed. She always had an energy drink, it just depended on what brand she had. It hadn’t been opened yet, and she was sure she needed it. She had been driving for hours on end. In the other hand was a bag of pretzels. Had Allie gone healthy? Of course she had. Over the summer, quite a few things had changed about her, starting with her figure.
It was thinner, if that was possible; but it was a healthy kind of thin. She had started exercising and eating right. The only thing that didn’t change was her energy drink addiction. Allie figured that would never change. She was a lot more developed as well. She used to have such a small frame and so child like, but now she actually looked her age. Her hair was darker, and the ends were always curly. She hadn’t grown any, still standing at a fairly small 5’4”. She wasn’t tan like she expected herself to be. In fact if it was possible, she was a bit paler. Her physical appearance may have changed, but on the inside, Allie was still her bubbly little self. Her squeaky little voice hadn’t changed, and her contagious smile still wrapped around her lips when she was happy.
She strolled into the lounge, taking a seat in one of the overstuffed chairs. She slipped clogs off, setting them beside her in the chair. Allie pulled her legs up to her chest, getting comfortable for the duration of time she would be there. With that, she took her can of Monster and popped it open, sipping at it contently. She bent over the side of the chair, picking up the bag and setting the books on her lap, sighing. It was going to be a long day.

i'm wide awake and so alive, ringing like a bell tell me this is paradise and not some place i fell 'cause i keep on falling down. Having siblings had its good points and bad points. Having a twin was a little different. Having a twin of the opposite sex was just... confusing. Paul and Becca were polar opposites in many regards; Paul was very mellow, easy-going, dramaless. Becca was... not. Becca was a drama magnet, actually, and she always overreacted. In Becca's life, anything that can get more complicated than it needs to be inevitably will. And that it did.
Before the summer, Becca's boyfriend of almost a year had dumped her. And Becca, being Becca, had done anything but take it in stride. She cried. She threw tantrums. She isolated her friends. And in her final act of rebellion, she ran away from home. Oh, that sister of his.
After finals, Paul had left school a week or so early to find his sister. The two of them were so different, and rarely got along. But they were twins, after all. They were connected on some level. And as much as they fought and annoyed each other, they were always there for one another. So if anyone could find that girl, it would be Paul.
So of course, she turned up quickly enough. Predictably, she had been camping out at her best friend's house as a sort of rebellion against the lack of understanding and sympathy she had received from her parents. And so Paul had found himself spending his whole summer comforting and hanging out with his drama queen of a sister.
Needless to say, it had been the least entertaining summer he had ever suffered through. And for once, he had been more than excited to go back to school. Enthralled, really. Plus, he hadn't seen his best friends in...forever. Things were still a little weird with the three of them... but he was over it. Really, he was. He just wanted things to go back to normal. He'd decided to give up on crushes for a little while; they were silly, caused drama, and never led anywhere, considering that the girls never liked him back. He'd gotten over Dee, and Brooklyn wasn't around, so he could easily take a girl-hiatus. It would be simple, he was convinced.
But that was far from a priority at the moment. No, he was currently more worried about his balance. He had never been as coordinated as he might have liked, which made his current undertaking a little complicated. His guitar was slung over his shoulder, the strap over his chest and guitar on his back, neck pointing upwards over his right shoulder. His backpack, dilapidated from three years of use, hung from his left shoulder, full of empty binders and notebooks and loose pencils and pens and a plastic little pencil sharpener and a big eraser he had stolen from his sister that had printed on it "For BIG mistakes." A plain blue baseball hat was perched unsteadily atop his mess of curly brown hair, threatening to topple to the floor at any moment. His feet were slid into his sneakers, pushing the backs down beneath his heels, shoe laces dragging behind him. Too-large jeans nearly tripped him repeatedly, getting caught under his shoes or between his heel and shoe.
Basically, he had rolled out of bed and realized that he had his first class in two hours and wasn't yet organized. He had pulled on clothes with next to no thought, grabbed everything he might need, and stumbled to the lounge to get himself organized, or at least minimally so. He'd likewise do this in his dorm room, if it weren't for the fact that his new roommate was the loudest snorer he had ever heard, which was threatening to drive him insane. If he had to sit listening to that monotonous droning for two hours, he'd wind up with a dead room mate, and that might raise questions.
Instead, Paul kicked open the door to the student lounge. His arms were laden with textbooks and such he had gotten the day before for school, including the book his English class would be starting this week, Bright Lights, Big City. He'd have to stop at the music room to drop off his guitar on his way to class; he had long ago discovered that dorm rooms weren't made to accomodate musical students - there was no room for a guitar, not if he liked wearing clothes, which he did. And his bed was too low to the ground to stuff his guitar under there, leaving him with no other options.
The thin white cord of his headphones ran from the iPod in the left pocket of his jeans, up in front of his green tee-shirt, and to his ears, lost behind his reckless curls. And as he caught the door with his right foot before it fell back closed, he was bopping his head to the sound of The Clash, sending his already precariously perched hat into a state of even more danger. And by the time he had kicked the door open again, with enough force to allow him to rush into the room before it closed on him, it had found it's way to the floor. Now, that left him in a bit of a pickle. He paused, his humming ceasing momentarily. Then he shifted the load in his arms to sit in a dangerous position balanced on his right palm, lowered himself slowly towards the ground, and snatched the hat with his left hand. Success!
Grinning, he carely placed the hat back onto his head, then redistribuated his load between two hands. He glanced curiously to the clock mounted above the doorway, his back to the rest of the lounge (the occupants of which were, most likely, staring at him in open-mouthed confusion), and noted that he should be out of the lounge in an hour and forty-three minutes to stop at the music room and make it to his first class on time. A decent amount of time, he'd say.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- She wasn’t distracted easily. It was strange, considering how upbeat Allie was that she wasn’t. Her concentration couldn’t be broken unless it was some kind of tragedy going on. This was no tragedy, but it was a bit startling. Her eyes darted from the text book to the person standing in the door way. Allie was puzzled, her eyes wide with curiosity. She really didn’t care if anybody else was with her, she could still get her work down. With the ball cap and everything else covering Paul up, Allie had yet to discover it was him. She discovered she must have a gift. Usually, whenever she thought of a person, they appeared out of nowhere. Her eyes scanned the boy, and then she smirked and turned back to her text book, still having no idea who he was.
When his hat fell off, Allie looked up again, this time with a smile from ear to ear. She felt her heart race with not only happiness, but fear as well. What if she had changed too much? What if they hadn’t talked, which made them split farther apart? It was these questions that wracked her brain, searching for a way out of the oblivion. Maybe some more things had changed about Allie. She was also very paranoid now. Something she wanted badly lately was the pills. Those tiny little pain killers seemed to make everything better. They made her feel more relaxed, free, more herself. It was only a matter of time until she knew she was going to slip back into the oblivion of those pills. That made her fear herself.
When she finally realized it was Paul, time seemed to stop for a minute. She dropped her text book, letting it fall to the ground in front of her. Her breath got caught in her throat. She shook her head, trying to get the reality back into her. Allie pushed everything else aside, climbing out of the chair. She tucked a few of her stray brunette curls behind her ears, crossing her arms and making her way over to him. His back was to her, but that didn’t stop anything. In fact, she was completely oblivious to the fact that he didn’t know she was in there.
If she scared him, he might get angry with her. But the same thing might happen if she didn’t say anything to him. So she decided to pick something not as scary, not as rude, but rather sweet. Allie slid beside him, then made her way in front of him. She gave him a hesitant smile before speaking. ”Come around here often?”

i'm wide awake and so alive, ringing like a bell tell me this is paradise and not some place i fell 'cause i keep on falling down. Now slightly more confident in his balancing efforts - and how could he not be, after that seamless display of grace and agility? Forgetting how he had originally displaced his hat, of course - Paul straightened back to his full six feet and two inches. Just as he was about to turn and claim his rightful spot at the couch in the student lounge, a figure edged out from behind him, a startlingly familiar figure.
"Allie!" he exclaimed in surprise, dropping the books from his arms, a grin spread across his features. He chuckled at himself, lowering his backpack from his shoulder and setting it on the ground next to his fallen books, not yet bothering to gather them up. He would, of course – he only had one hour and forty-one minutes now to get himself organized. But he hadn’t seen Allie in months, and it felt like longer. His books could wait on the floor for a bit, surely they wouldn’t begrudge him a minute on the floor. Not when he was about to so neatly organize them in the remnants of a once new backpack.
Paul took a moment, removing the headphones from his ears and draping the cord around his neck. And then, still grinning, he pulled the shorter girl into a bear hug. He didn't have to bend down so much to hug Allie, not like he did when he went to hug Dee. It was slightly more normal here. Then again, Dee was adorable in her shortness. But comparing Dee and Allie had always felt weird to him. He found himself doing it every so often, and immediately resented himself for it. They were his two best friends, equally important to him. And since he had vowed to never crush on either of them ever again, they would remain equal. Comparing his two best friends was silly, when they would come out equal regardless.
When he pulled away, adjusting the strap of his guitar slung across his back, he was still grinning. "How are you?" he inquired happily, pausing a moment, then bending down, gathering up his fallen books and placing them rather messily atop the table in front of the couch. He kicked his backpack to the side, then looked back to Allie with a wide smile. "How was your summer?" Paul removed the guitar strap from around his shoulder, placing the guitar on the floor and leaning it against the table with meticulous care. He was almost far more ginger with his guitar than with the books, for which he had shown no remorse letting topple to the ground. Well, we all have our priorities.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It may have to be the best feeling in the world, being around her best friend again. Her grin stretched from ear to ear as he said her name. No matter what Allie told people, she had always had a little crush on Paul – except for when she was dating Cheetah. No, she wouldn’t let Cheetah flood her thoughts and ruin the best thing that had happened in a long time. ”Paul!” She exclaimed, in return to his greeting. Allie bit down on her bottom lip, feeling almost a bit hesitant around him. Things hadn’t seemed to change, and as soon as he wrapped her in his arms, she forgot Quin’s existence. Way to go, Allie.
It was like the summer had never even happened, like she hadn’t left and he hadn’t left. It was then when she remembered she had a boyfriend. It didn’t stop her from wrapping Paul in a hug, returning his own. She felt guilty immediately. Allie had to try to stop this little crush from growing on her. It would kill Quin. She stepped back from him reluctantly and stepped aside so they could both go into the student lounge. It was the very thing that she had anticipated that was making her feel terrible. It wasn’t his fault of course; Allie was the one at fault.
”I’m fine… and summer was… fine.” Allie shrugged, not really knowing how to respond. She could tell him about Quin, maybe that would make up for the old feelings rushing back to her. She sat down in her chair again, sipping at her drink. Once she set it back down again, she went into detail. ”I met a boy. I guess you could say we’re dating, but we haven’t done anything. I don’t know…” She crisscrossed her legs in the chair and put her elbows on her knees, her chin in her hands.
Allie glanced up at him with a smile. ”How about your summer? Any girls? Anything interesting? My summer wasn’t all that interesting, so I’m hoping you have a good story to tell or something.” She said with a laugh. Then she remembered the last day she was with Paul at Stewart. Allie hadn't even told him about her feelings, in fact, she ran from him. But he liked Brooklyn. Was Brooklyn even in this school anymore? Allie contemplated that for a moment, when she mentally kicked herself. She should have just told him anyway instead of being afraid of the reaction. She looked down at her bag for a minute, remembering the stash she had.
This paranoia was driving her insane. All she wanted was one pill, maybe two; but two pills turned into three pills, and three pills turned into the whole bottle. Allie grabbed the bag, putting it in her lap and sticking her hands in it, finding the bottle and grasping it. She smiled, seeing the old friend of hers. She wouldn’t dare take it out, but just knowing she had them made her feel the slightest bit better.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Allie chuckled at Paul’s reaction to her boy. This boy may not be the boy Paul was thinking of. She was almost sure they wouldn’t last as long as she had with Cheetah. The name made shivers go down her spine as if he’d just stepped in the room. Her eyes went blank, and she tried to shake the boy from her mind. He had been her very first love, or so she thought. It was all so hard to decipher now. They had been attached at the hip and then the next day he didn’t love her anymore. How did that work? She bit down on her bottom lip, his memories flooding her mind. She wasn’t going to let him ruin her good day; not at all, it just wasn’t going to happen.
”His name is Quin. He’s in my grade. He’s really sweet… but I don’t really see myself with him. Sometimes I forget we’re even dating. I know that sounds terrible, but it’s true. You won’t tell anyone about this, right?” Allie questioned, twirling a piece of her hair. She was almost positive that Paul wouldn’t tell. After all, no one else was around. She’d know who told Quin or somebody else if they found out. She pondered the decision silently, trying to figure out what to do. “He’s a great guy, it’s just he’s kind of innocent. I’ve been through a lot more than he has. I’m tougher… isn’t it supposed to be the other way around?”
Her eyes widened. Becca had been the girl that was rude to her at the pool the day she met Paul. Allie had never really gotten along with Becca. She smirked whenever Paul said he wasn’t much for incest. “I would sincerely hope not.” She said softly with a giggle. She couldn’t help but smile whenever he said Becca had been dumped and ran away. It soon faded when she remembered Cheetah used to run away all the time. Allie shoved it all away, focusing on the conversation again.
She nodded, agreeing that it would be an amusing picture. “Sounds like you had the summer of your life!” Allie said sarcastically, putting two thumbs up in the air with a grin.

i'm wide awake and so alive, ringing like a bell tell me this is paradise and not some place i fell 'cause i keep on falling down. Paul frowned at Allie's explanation of her boyfriend, sitting up a little straighter. Well, that hadn't been quite the relationship he'd had in mind fo his Allie. "Of course I won't tell anyone," he answered, leaning back into the chair thoughtfully. "But why are you dating him if you don't really see you and him as more than friends?" he asked, his curiousity picqued. He chuckled lightly at her explanation. "Not necessarily. But that doesn't matter, really, if you don't think you and him have like, romantic chemistry." He laughed. "That sounded impossibly corny."
Paul grinned at her comment, shrugging as if his indifference to incest was nothing. "Yes, it was the best summer I've had in a while," he agreed, smiling.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Allie shrugged, tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ears. Her explanation was going to sound really stupid, she was sure of it. "Because he's really nice... and I thought you know, I liked him more when we were back in Miami." She began, biting down on her bottom lip. Allie shook her head, trying to think of how to say what she wanted to say. "I didn't want to hurt his feelings when he asked me out or anything. That might sound really harsh but I knew if I would have turned it down it would've broken his heart." She said with a small pout. "I hate that I did it... I don't know, I'll have to do something about it some time."
[ooc:] it's okay, mine is even shorter. xD [/blockquote]
