Cake was one of the most fantastic things to bake - at least, it was in Jeremy's book. It was so intricate with all it's layers and ingredients to match up with each other, yet so fun and simple to do. Jeremy hadn't visited the cooking room in a while, and he decided that he really needed to bake something soon before he exploded. So cake was the answer.
Right now, a chocolate strawberry cake was on the agenda. He planned to use chocolate batter for the layers, and then top it all with pink strawberry frosting. After that he'd cover it in chocolate sprinkles and real strawberries, and then it'd be perfect. The only problem would be that he'd need to find someone to eat it.
At the moment, Jeremy was currently mixing the batter. He already had some egg yolk on his shoulder and flour streaked across his cheek. He may have been a brilliant cook, but he sure got messy doing so. Oh well, he'd always clean things to be spotless once he finished.
"Wait until the texture is almost pudding-like before ending your stirring. You should see absolutely no powder, otherwise you definitely need to keep going," he muttered under his breath, talking to his imaginary audience. Jeremy wasn't childish anymore; he wasn't going to burst into a full-on baking performance like he used to. But he had developed a habit over the years, and now he had to say the directions out loud as he did them.
He reached down and swiped a bit of the batter out of the bowl, putting it to his lips. "Mmm," he murmured in delight. His eyes lit up. "I'm so fxcking good at this."

Jeremy didn't take notice when Sammie entered the room, being so entranced in his mix. He looked up in surprise when a finger scraped some batter off the side of the bowl, and then smiled gently.
"Well, that's good. Otherwise I would have had to eat it all myself, and then America would have yet another person to add to it's obesity statistics." He grinned, straightening up and relaxing his shoulders. Sometimes when he baked he got lost from reality. Sammie had pulled him back into the actual world again.
Jeremy eyed her for a moment or two, and grabbed a round cake layer pan to pour the batter in. "So... um, I heard some things about you and Ben," he remarked conversationally. He actually wanted to know the whole scoop, seeing as Ben didn't come to him about anything anymore.

i'm amazed that i'm talking to you, you look like the songs that i've heard my whole life coming true. ---------------------------------------------------------------Sammie said with a sheepish grin, noticing she had startled him a bit. She had always been a big fan of chocolate. It didn't matter how upset she was, chocolate always seemed to bring a smile to her face and an ease to her situation. Don't get her started on chocolate and peanut butter. It had bothered her whenever she heard about the salmonella outbreak in peanut butter. It was another one of her favorite foods, shoved off the shelves. Stupid Americans had no idea what they were doing. She chuckled at his obesity comment, her eyes finding their way right back to the chocolaty goodness. "Sometimes I think I'm going on that route, especially with chocolate. I eat chocolate like it's going out of style." Sammie said with a small smile. She realized how stupid she sounded with the comment she said before. That saying had gone out of style. She shook her head, taking a stool from a different table and pulling it up to that side. Sammie sat down on it, crossing one leg over the other. What had he heard about them? Sammie tilted her head to the side, raising a brow. She crossed her arms across her chest. "Oh really?" She asked, finally not being able to resist and taking one last swipe from the side of the bowl. "Sorry, couldn't control myself." Sammie said softly. "What have you heard about us?"[/ul]

Jeremy smiled. Chocolate often had that effect on him, too. Then he'd feel terrible and eat nothing but salad for the rest of the month. He gently smacked away Sammie's hand when she took another swipe from the bowl, sending her a laughing smile.
"Nothing bad, of course. Just that you two have sort of... hit it off. Again." He looked down at the mixture that was now perfectly poised in the pan, and he brought it over to the oven, setting up the correct temperatures for baking.
"So you know... how did that happen?" He asked, looking over his shoulder and raising an eyebrow.

She tapped her fingers on the table, trying to wrap her mind around how this all happened. Finally, something popped into her head and she began to blurt it all out. "We were just hanging out, and we kissed. It was like something we'd been holding back for a long time, I don't know. The tension was always there... but Kyle was in the way. And Kyle hadn't been treating me the best lately.." Sammie paused. "And I really really liked Ben. So I weighed my options and went with what I wanted."[/ul]

Jeremy slipped the pan into the oven and shut it closed. Then he came back to the counter and began to create a new mix for the second layer. He didn't know what to make of Sammie's explanation, seeing as he never talked to Ben and didn't know anything of the subject.
"Well, that's good. You two are finally getting what you wanted then," he commented with a hint of a smile. It wasn't complete though; he was still very skeptical of everything Ben did. The fact that Ben hurt Andrea so cruelly the year before would always stick out in Jeremy's head. He didn't want to see the same sort of thing happen to Sammie. He didn't fully trust Ben yet.
"Just be careful with him, you know? I mean, you've just recovered from all your own personal problems. I know Ben is a lot less dramatic than Kyle, but he can still be..." he trailed off, giving Sammie an uncertain look.

"I plan on being careful with him, it's just sometimes kind of hard. He's so good to me, or at least he has been so far. It's like something just clicked and the old Ben came back." She said with a small smile. "I'm not going to complain though, I'm grateful for the change." She got up from the stool and began to pace back and forth beside the table. Sammie stopped suddenly, turning to face him. "Anything new in the life of Jeremy Roberts?" She asked with a chuckle. [/ul]
