Beep. Beep. Beep. He could hear the machine beeping away as he lay in the bed. He felt sterile clothes on his body and sterile sheets. He was instantly confused and opened his eyes. He was in the nurse’s office, but there was no nurse, at least, not the school one. He turned to a woman in white adjusting some tube. “What happened?” He whispered. She looked down at him caringly. “You had a seizure honey.” Kyle blinked a bit. A…a seizure? But he felt fine…all he remembered was Sammie, something about Sammie and Ben. He shifted a bit. This was so strange, being here, knowing about this. Soon he heard noises and a girl with frizzy brown hair came storming in.
“I’m not sure if I should kill you or yell at you or just cry.”
Kyle raised his hand a bit. “Don’t cry, I hate when you cry.”
“Dammit Kyle, why didn’t you ask me to come with you? I mean I know I said I didn’t want to but I say a lot of things and do a lot of different things. If you had just flipping TOLD me that you were cutting again I could have tried to help you. GOD Kyle. Really. I mean….UGGG!” She walked up to him. “I just can’t believe you could be so stupid!” She sighed and walked close to the bed. “If I killed you right now, could I just blame it on the doctor and call it euthanasia?”
The doctor soon walked in. He had come with the ambulance and was now stationed in the nurses. The doctor didn’t even look up from his clipboard. “No jury in the world…” He said and looked up, smiling. “Hello, I’m Doctor Avery. You must be Dasha. His cousin, correct?”
Dasha nodded. She took a bottle of pills out of her pocket and popped some in and swallowed. “So what’s the deal doc? I mean I don’t really know what’s going on with him, he hasn’t been taking his medication.
The doctor looked down at a chart. “We found he had taken at least two doses of his medication in his blood stream.” Then he looked over at the nurse and muttered. “Are we sure the GUY is the one who’s the emergency?”
Dasha smirked. “Compared to him…I’m normal. She looked at the doctor’s face then smirked. “No…not really.” She then got up and sighed. “So since you seem to know everything you need in that clip board…what’s wrong with him?”
The doctor sighed. “It’s strange…it seems his medication isn’t working anymore, but I can’t think of any reason why that would be. He did well with it for so long and now….I can’t think that he would become resistant.”
Dasha shrugged. “Well he presented with depression and he actually cut his doses in half, so I doubt that’s it. He’s had a lot of drama going on right now.”
The doctor raised an eyebrow. “Really? Chemical or clinical for depression?”
Dasha tilted her head. “Um…chemical.
The doctor nodded. “It makes sense now. See, Mr. Fishmen—“
“Kyle.”
“Right, sorry. Kyle was taking a special kind of medication. It dealt with the depression and the schizophrenia. We did some preliminarily tests and there was no sign of chemical depression. Meaning the medication no longer worked because it couldn’t address the depression, so it couldn’t affect the neurotransmitters in the schizophrenia.”
Dasha just stared and the doctor rolled his eyes a little. “’Cuse me for not going to medical school.” She muttered.
The doctor smiled. “It basically means that now his medication doesn’t work.”
Dasha shrugged. “Okay…give him new meds.”
The doctor shook his head. “It’s more then that…we need to reassess him, we can’t just blindly give him medicine.”
“Well the stuff you’re using seems fine.” Kyle seemed calm, his eyes had closed once more.
“He’s just on morphine…not a substitute. We’ll need to take him in for 24 hour observation…and then he shouldn’t be under any stress.”
Dasha sighed. “They maybe you should keep him there for like…five days.” She turned to him. “Girlfriend trouble.”
The doctor raised an eyebrow. “I guess. I’ll have to get the parent’s consent but we can have him out of here by tomorrow.”
“Kyle? Did you hear any of that?” She asked softly.
Kyle raised his fingers a little, up and down.
“Do you want to go?”
Again, up and down. “Sammie?” He whispered.
Dasha took his hand and stroked it gently. “I know honey, I know, she’s not here yet, but she will be, don’t worry.”
“Tomas…Elizabeth…” he said softly.
Dasha shook her head. “They won’t come around. Besides, Tomas is just an ass, you shouldn’t listen to him, and even though Elizabeth seems like me…it’s just…no.” She smiled a bit.
The doctor coughed a bit. “We allow friends and such, that will be fine before he goes…”
Dasha shook her head. “Tomas, Elizabeth and Joanna are the voices.”
The doctor raised an eyebrow. “He named them?”
Dasha just shrugged.
